i'm wondering if there's any 2D AI source code or engines out there. I'm inspired by the Euphoria engine, and want to use whatever is already out there to make something like it in 2D, where the characters can move left and right, and attempt to preserve themselves. The only new feature i would want to add on is ability to learn from common results after an action.
I'm thinking the way it would work is you attach some AI to a character, and it determines movement/detection based on the number of arms, legs, joints, restrictions, and other movement-related body parts.

Its not exactly AI you should be looking for. Its (Human) Motion Synthesis.
Euphoria is the only product is the market that can do so. Googling, bring up some research result, but they are 3d. So, for 2d I think writing your own might be the only solution.
What it seems you want is completely procedural character locomotion, I doubt very much that this exists in free-interwebs space.
In games like Spore, the locomotion is partially procedural, this means that you already need base data to say what kind of movement each limb can produce, etc. You could really take this as far as you want, the easiest is to start with saying that a character uses his legs for walking, and go from there.

As you can see, the aim is adaptability to a terrain and both use a basic knowledge of how a person walks. The Euphoria engine works in pretty much the same way; simply put it's a mix between ragdoll physics and animations.
On the other end of the spectrum, you could give a creature limbs that can move in a certain way, and let physics show what the end result is.
The hardest part would be to let your creature learn from his mistakes, typically using a Neuronal Network, so it can learn how to walk faster, with more stability, etc.
hey so I've decided to Code my own 2D soft-body physics engine in C++ since apparently none exist and I'm starting only with a general idea/understanding on how physics work and could be simulated: by giving points and connections between points properties such as elasticity, density, mass, shape retention, friction, stickiness, etc. What I want is a starting point: resources and helpful... or ideas. finally I was wondering if it was possible to... use the source code of an existing 3D engine such as Bullet and transform it to be 2D based? use the source code of a 2D Rigid body physics
Sorry for the ackward title, but i don't know what to call it exactly. I'm looking for code or libraries that allow easy creation of commonly used user input devices, and code/libs that make gaming controls easy to set up (i'm using SFML and Box2D at the moment) I don't want to re-invent things like buttons, arrows being placed wherever the mouse is located, and more game specific items such as "controls settings" or even being able to drag objects around with the mouse. I'm writing a game engine which is going very fine. However, I'm now posed with handling textures. My Engine is in 2D, for simplicity reasons mostly to get a good idea of how to work with OpenGL. I do this in C++, and I have a hierarchical set-up when it comes to classes. There's a base class and some other classes derive from that. So now I'm onto the part where I want to load up some textures... to render the scene. What I'm interested in, what is the best practice to handle this, and how to handle OpenGL texture storage. This is the first time I'm trying to make a 2D game, so I'm having quite a few difficulties in getting things right. Right now I'm trying to figure out exactly how the entity state machine should...) is therefore highly wasteful. Then again, making each entity state a singleton hardly seems appropriate. What do you suggest I do? (The same can be said about game states, so whatever the solution... changed, then it (the representation) starts having an internal state.
